Once upon a time I couldn’t run for more than a couple minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out. So I don’t know what compelled me to hop on the treadmill at the gym to see if I could run a whole mile.
Actually yes I do. It was my inspirational BRF, Helly. She changed my life and I am forever grateful to her for it.
Two years ago this very month – and maybe even this very day…I wish I had written the date down, but I thought nothing of it at that point – this is exactly what happened. I ran my mile and it lit a little spark inside me. I never would have guessed that I would be completing my first half marathon 6 months later and then a year later my first full with many other race distances represented in between. And of course I would start this blog to save my husband’s sanity and in the process make so many new friends that share my love for this sport. (I love you guys.)
It has been an awesome journey so far.

I have 17 more days to go until my second full marathon (OMG) and then I plan on taking a few weeks off from running altogether to let myself heal up properly. Then I want to focus on shorter distances. It has been a long time since I did any intervals and I miss them! By the fall I would love to have some new PRs , but especially improve my half marathon time which I could already see happening a little bit before I hurt my back.
There WILL be more marathons in my future, but they will be far-between. One thing I have learned over the past several months is that my body is not particularly fond of training for 26.2 miles. With my wacky anatomy, I believe I am better suited for the half or less. I wrote a post about all that awhile back and if you care to read it, it can be found here.
I hope to have many, many more years of doing this ahead of. There is a local woman that runs in many of the same 5K races that I do. She’s in her 80’s and I want to be her when I grow up. I just need to remember to take the advice I’m always giving to other people and take good care of myself.
Happy Running Anniversary to me.
How long have you been running? What is your favorite race distance?
I hope everyone has a spectacular Thursday!
