My little gymnast, a baseball game, a new big girl room, and a Bondi Band winner!

So much stuff to talk about!! This weekend was a whirlwind, but it pretty much rocked.

It all started out with a nice 8 mile run on Saturday morning and aside from some seriously tight calves I realized I was starting to feel a little bit more like myself again. After that it was off to Betty’s gymnastics class and SHOW WEEK! Basically what this entails is that family can attend and the kids show off skills they have learned on the beam, bars, and mat. Betty was all about participating and she did such a great job. I was so proud! But then of course I am a total mom fail and really I had completely forgotten it was SHOW WEEK! so I wasn’t prepared to take photos. Luckily a friend of mine was there to get some of Betty receiving her ribbon. (Please thank your husband again for me, Sara!!)

This is how we stand on the podium.

And this is how we stand on the podium.

We hung her ribbon up in her room along with a medal she received from running in a kids race last year, just like how mommy has her medals hanging on the wall. 🙂

Then it was off to a birthday party where we got to hang out with some wonderful old friends that I haven’t seen in a VERY long time. Like so long that we hadn’t even met each others’ kids yet and the oldest of these kids are 4! As is her MO, Betty charmed the pants off of everyone. At cake time she opted for the gluten free, all natural mango and coconut option that they had and who am I to argue with that? Eat all the cake you want, kiddo.

Saturday night we had tickets to the baseball game and no babysitter so Mr. Salt kindly offered to stay home so I could go with my best friend, Favorite.

These seats were cool because they were right next to the bullpen, but we ended up going to sit in my friend's seats after one inning which were behind the O's dugout.

AND WE ACTUALLY WON!!! We hardly ever win when I go to the game! I just posted on Friday how much no winning tends to occur when I’m there! When I got home, I told Mr. Salt that it must be him because it’s definitely not me. I think I still feel bloated today from drinking beer – I never ever ever drink beer and I’m pretty sure my body was like WTF where’s the wine? – but it was still so much fun.

Yesterday I had kind of a headache in the morning (thanks, beer!), but was able to mostly sweat it out at the gym and then we went to one of my most favorite places on the PLANET…

All they need is a Starbucks, a wine bar, and a Target next door and I would never have to leave.

All they need is a Starbucks, a wine bar, and a Target next door and I would never have to leave.

Betty has been in a big girl bed since February, but the rest of her room still had all the makings of a nursery; changing table, her rocker, her big dresser. Basically a whole bunch of big people furniture. Since she was very small, I’ve been interested in making her room into a Montessori style room*.

*In case you don’t know what that is, the basic premise is having everything on her level so that she can explore and use things in however way she wants. In a true Montessori room, everything would be at her eye level including pictures on the walls, but as you’ll see in a sec we didn’t go to all that great length yet (although I’d like to once we find a house to move into).

We picked out all sorts of new shelving and fun extras too like a folding tumble mat because as you know she’s an award winning gymnast now and needs someplace to practice her somersaults.

Here’s the final result!

What I should have done was taken a video of her running around in circles yelling “MY NEW ROOM!! MY NEW ROOOM!” because that was her awesome reaction to all our hard work. Then I think I had one of the most restful nights of sleep that I’ve had in a long time because her new room is also a lot safer this way.

Oh and then after Betty went to bed I watched some of the Miss USA pageant and was subsequently very ashamed of myself.

Now…on to the WINNERS of my Bondi Band giveaway!

DitdsvHnrjR8Y6IhVr4RWt-Fj8HSq2NrDRS02WcRMAAThree winners were picked at random, and those people will get to choose based on the order that they were picked which band they would like for me to send them.

A great big thanks to Bondi Band again for providing me with the bands to give away and a big thanks to all of you too for entering! And the winners are:

Love the way the room came out … so many memories of doing the boys rooms over through the years came flooding back. They are pretty neutral now, but both are getting ready for another do-over 🙂 And I also loved the gym pics – those are amazing times and memories … great weekend, thanks for sharing!

Also, totally get you on the beer. I got a 6 pack of a local beer a few months ago … I’ll stick with the wine. Your body deals with it differently I think.

Thanks! We had such a great time picking things out for it too. It’s so much fun now that she has an opinion on things. And I’m just so glad that I had a friend there to take the pics for me. I would have felt terrible if I didn’t get any photos of it!

I am definitely back to wine only now haha.

What a fun weekend!! Love B’s room and you look so pretty in your selfie friend pic 🙂
And I have to admit, unashamedly, I’m kinda bummed I missed the USA pageant lol! I was busy watching the dumb Heat win against the Spurs :/

  3. Shawna says:

the room looks so great! what a treat for a lil girl — you made her a true haven.
my weekend was fabulous — amazing weather and spent it at my parents’ house on the lake, so it doesn’t get better than laying on a boat all wknd. i’ve gone to two baseball games at Yankee stadium so far this year and def hope to hit more — love me some baseball!

    • runsaltrun says:

Thank you so much! She seems to really love it and that’s my biggest concern. I wish my room was as much fun as hers is.

Okay I am jealous of your boating weekend. I need a lake and a boat to hang out on. That sounds marvelously relaxing! And even though our teams are rivals I can always appreciate another baseball fan!! 🙂

You are very welcome for the pics. I didn’t even know it was show week but was recovering from what I’m assuming was food poisoning. I was so bummed when Brian came home and told me.

Betty’s room looks awesome! I like the white shelf with the sliding bins – was that from Ikea too? Charlotte hasn’t moved into her big girl bed yet – that is her “I’m finally potty trained” reward – but a mini room makeover would go along nicely with that.

This weekend – I felt yuck most of Saturday, but did feel well enough to take Charlotte to the pool Sat. afternoon – it was glorious! Yesterday we hit up the zoo, Target, and the snowball stand (the highlight of my weekend for sure).

    P.S. – Betty’s sandals are adorable!

Miss Kara at the gym really didn’t say too much about it. Like I remember her mentioning it in passing but didn’t make such a big to-do so that’s why I forgot and then she said they were getting ribbons and I was like NOOOOO! NO CAMERA! So that was awesome of him. Ugh I’m so sorry you were sick! Are you feeling better today?

Yep the sliding bin shelf is also Ikea (it’s her new dresser) and it’s awesome. I just love that place for every reason. We need to do a zoo date! Oh and those sandals are Target. I think they still have them. They would look super cute on Charlotte’s feet! 🙂

Love your little girl’s room! I always enjoyed decorating my kids’ rooms when they were young. But now they are teenagers and…well…they have different design ideas than I do. 😉 I have already offered my services to them in helping decorate my (way in the) future grandchildren’s rooms. Ha!

    • runsaltrun says:

Thank you so much! I love that she has more input into it now. (Obviously her nursery design was all from my brain.) I’ll be having as much fun with this as I can until she’s older and wants boy band posters on the wall. 🙂

  6. hbarnstein says:

That is so awesome! My daughter loved moving into her big girl room, although I think she was older when we did it than Betty is. It was hard for me though, she felt so far away!

    • runsaltrun says:

She’s just on the other side of the wall from us, so the distance is okay for me, but it definitely feels really emotional having all the “baby” stuff out of her room. She’s really such a big girl now. ❤

  7. SuzLyfe says:

Betty could charm the pants off of a fish. Seriously. I remember when I got to help do some redecorating in my room and move into a big girl bed, and then yearrrs later I moved to a new room. I like to think that after years of being in college and shared apartments that Alex and I are finally in a big-person apartment. Sort of. It’ll work for now 🙂

    • runsaltrun says:

I hope she will remember yesterday! We really had so much fun getting it all ready and then she was just running around in there like a nut. When I was getting her book shelf set up, she was collecting books from all over the apartment to help me out. I feel like she is taking a lot of pride in her space now. I AM SO PROUD OF HER. I bet she could charm the pants off a fish. Also I would like to see a fish wearing pants.

  8. vegasmotherrunner says:

Love her room! We were at Ikea this weekend too and there were so many cute kid rooms. I’ve never heard of a Montessori style room, but this is exactly how our playroom is set up. Everything at their level and easily accessible. It works great!

    • runsaltrun says:

Thanks! Ikea is like Target in that I can get lost in there for hours and leave with a whole bunch of things that I didn’t go in for at all. Her playroom is the same way too and I just love that she has so much of her very own space now. (Plus this was a really good way to declutter the playroom a bit. She has SO MUCH STUFF. I have no idea how that happened.)

  9. themilereport says:

I absolutely love the idea of a Montessori room!!! I’ve heard of montessori classrooms/learning, but not a bedroom. What a brilliant idea!

There is an IKEA 10 minutes away from my house, and I have been there wayyy too many times!

    • runsaltrun says:

Yep it’s exactly like that! I don’t know where exactly I started hearing about bedrooms done that way, but I just think it’s the most wonderful idea. 🙂

That is a very dangerous distance for an Ikea. We have to drive like 25 minutes to get to ours which keeps me from heading over there randomly every day.

  10. Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says:

Her room looks great! I’ve never heard of a Montessori room, but I have heard of the schools so I’m familiar with the concept.
I am embarrassed to say that I live within walking distance of Camden Yards and I haven’t been there in over 2 years. I finally have plans to go to a game in July, though!

    • runsaltrun says:

Thanks!! Yeah I can’t remember where I originally read about bedrooms being done in that style, but once I had her I knew I wanted to do something like that.

If I lived that close, I’d probably spend way too much money (as I always do when I go to games), so it’s probably better that I’m a little outside the city haha. Games are always so much fun! This was the 3rd one I’ve been to this year so far.

  11. piratebobcat says:

Love the new room! Our little girl has the same owl pillow! Whooo would’ve thought?!?!
As for IKEA – I dread going there. I get so overwhelmed by it all, start sweating, and accidentally use one of their display bathrooms. 😉
BTW, I ran 8 miles Saturday too – twinsies! After that I was hanging out with Olympians, no big whoop.

    • runsaltrun says:

You are the master of puns! hahaha! That pillow is too cute. You guys have good home decor taste. 🙂

I think the display bathrooms were confusing for Betty.

  12. michelle says:

I’ve never heard of Montessori Rooms but what a neat idea! C is due for a big boy room soon, maybe we should go that route. We converted crib to toddler bed a couple weeks ago and he loves it! Weather was beautiful this weekend!

    • runsaltrun says:

It really was awesome outside! I’m glad you guys had a smooth transition. We did too, but I’ve heard soooo many horror stories so I was a little nervous how it would pan out. The only downside was days like today when I woke up and she was standing like 3 inches from my face staring at me. Scared the crap out of me!

  13. fitnessmeetsfrosting says:

OMG I LOVE her new room!!! I had never heard of Montessori Rooms but I love the concept! OMG Kyle will most likely ban me from Ikea (unless he is with me and the sole credit card holder) once we buy a house 😉

    • runsaltrun says:

It is a dangerous, dangerous place especially very close to payday.
It’s really a cool idea and fun for her but also a lot of peace of mind for me because I had this great fear ever since she got her big girl bed that she was going to somehow pull her dresser drawers out and they would land on her. So it’s extra nice to not have to worry about that anymore.

  14. Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says:

Aw that brought back so many memories of my childhood! I did gymnastics when I was little and I remember showing off my “awesome moves” for my parents haha. I love her new room!! I’d want to live in that room lol

    • runsaltrun says:

Haha we practiced some of her awesome moves this morning as we were getting ready for work/school. She loves it when I help her stand on her head. The mat is a fun thing to have in her room, but it’s definitely going to make us late occasionally.

  15. Kristin says:

I love Betty and I love gymnastics!!! What a beautiful gymnast!!!! AHHHH!!!! What a darling room!! I love it SO much!! XOXO!! Happy Monday!! Great run, too!!!

  16. Meg says:

I only know what Montessori is because of you and our mommy group. I like the idea though and will probably be coming to you for tips later on. But I love B and her new room!

I haven’t been to a ball game in a long time. We used to go to Bulls games when we lived in Raleigh, but I can’t remember if the last game I went to was a Cubs game or a Bulls game.

  17. missadventuresinrunning says:

I love her new room! It turned out amazing! It is even better that it is Montessori. As an elementary teacher, I am all about that!

  18. Hailey @ Striding Strong says:

That room is AWESOME!! I didn’t think I had heard of a Montessori room before, but then I remembered that show “The Little Couple.” Have you seen it? Their whole entire house is built that way so they don’t have to rely on stools, chairs, etc. to reach whatever they need and I thought it was so cool. It’s been years since I’ve been to a baseball game. I remember walking into the stadium for the first time and my jaw dropping. I really need to change that since baseball its one of the few sports that I (semi) understand and that doesn’t bore me haha.

  19. Jennifer says:

Adorable room! So much cooler options for kids now! I love the owl pillow. My cousin’s 2 year old son goes to Montessori school and I am so impressed with his development this past year.

  20. irishrunnerchick says:

Betty’s room is adorable! So cute! All of our furniture is from IKEA – we moved from Scotland a little over four years ago and needed cheap (but cool looking) furniture straight away. Salt Lake has a minor league team and I’ve been a couple of times but I have no idea what is going on!

  21. Change of Pace says:

I love the photos of Betty’s room; it looks so inviting and cozy 🙂
Glad you’re starting to feel like yourself running again! It can take a while, so don’t get frustrated!
Last time I went to a baseball game was in Denver in 2012!! I’m way over due!

  22. Running Bear says:

That painted tree branch with blossoms and birds is outstanding, such a unique touch. Gymnastics Show Week is the best, they are so excited to show us their moves, I love the enthusiasm. Just got back from a 3rd grade play about insects where all of the kids had their own bug costumes, so proud of my little Fire Fly!

  23. Pandora Viltis says:

Betty’s room is adorable! We did the ikea thing when my son was small too. We even had those bins (not pink, though). I didn’t realize there was a thing as a Montessori room, although my son went to Montessori through 5th grade. It makes sense knowing the philosophy.

  24. candies & crunches says:

I think I’ve already said it on IG but you’ve done a great job on decorating your daughter’s room. I don’t have kids yet, but I’ve heard of this method. I’ll definitely keep in my mind for the future!!! ❤ xoxo

  25. Charlotte says:

Betty is adorable! Beautiful room. You are an awesome mom. Beer bloats me to and messes up early morning runs also! I still love having it at a Ballgame. 🙂

  26. Sue @ This Mama Runs For Cupcakes says:

Love Betty’s room! So cute! Girls are so much more fun to decorate for!! I also love Ikea but I always get lost, end up getting pissed and don’t go back for months. They definitely need a wine bar, that would making getting lost much easier 🙂

I want to hear from YOU!
