It’s like awards season up in here!

Except without the red carpet, limos, paparazzi, or commentary on what I’m wearing this evening. If there were, it would probably sound something like…

“Salt looks strikingly high fashion in gray sweatpants that she got on sale for $5 from Target the other day and a vintage orange tie dye tube top with a hole in it from Forever 21 that may have been purchased when she was actually 21.”

I just got home from hot yoga and haven’t showered yet, hence I am unapologetic about this outfit choice.

Anyway, I suck. Recently some of my most favorite bloggers in the wide world have generously gifted me some fun awards on their blogs and I have been really bad about accepting them. I feel like a total jerkwad because I really appreciate being thought of!

So today is Blog Award Day!

Warning: You are about to learn more about me than you ever cared to know in your entire life.

First, Liebster Awards.

I received these from Jenna @ Little Green Running Shoes, Emmaline @ Run for the Pizza, The Half Mad Half Marathoner, Lisa @ Running Out of Wine, and Becky @ Run Becky Run. If you haven’t checked out these blogs yet, please do! All five of these ladies are kickass!

As part of this award, I am supposed to answer an assortment of questions that they have made up for me, so this post is about to become a Salt braindump. I don’t blame you one bit if you want to go make yourself a sandwich or something and come back later.

Jenna Asks:

1. What’s your favorite ice cream?

My favorite frozen yogurt place near my house just got in a caramel frappuccino flavor. I’ve only had it once, but I’m totally obsessed with it.

2. What’s your favorite outfit?

I wear jeans a lot or funky leggings. I also love to wear tank tops and really wish I could be doing more of that right about now. (It’s currently 40 degrees. Where the hell is my spring!?)

3. What’s your pet peeve?

I give you, this post

4. Who do you admire most?

My dad. He’s overcome a lot of bad things in his life and is one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever known. He’s also the reason I went to school for design!

5. Pirates or Ninjas? Why?

Only because Betty likes them so much.

6. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

7. If you owned a cow what would you name it?

Moo-lia Roberts.

8. Do you eat enough veggies?

Actually yes! I eat a ton of veggies. In fact, I just ate a giant bowl of asparagus about an hour ago.

9. Who is your favorite super hero? Why?

Totally badass, nerdy-cute when he doesn’t have that creepy mask on, and also has a quirky sense of humor that you don’t normally find in a super hero.

10. What have you learned today?

That I should probably accept blog awards as soon as they are given to me rather than waiting.

11. What scares you?

How long this post is about to get.

Emmaline Asks:

1. You have unlimited space and resources, how many pets do you have and what kind?

I’m thinking a scenario kind of like this:

Betty would LOVE it. Minus Matt Damon though, please, because I find him to be unattractive and not very good at acting.

2. What sports/activities did you do as a young child (prior to age 12-ish)?

I played basketball, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse from 4th until 6th grade and not by choice. The school I attended was so small that every girl in the class had to be on the teams or else we wouldn’t have enough people to compete with other schools. The only sport I ever scored in was basketball and that was only one time.

3. What is the first thing you do when you visit your hometown? (other than seeing family/friends)

I live in my hometown now, but when I used to visit from out west, the first thing I would always want to do was track down some crab cakes. I will only eat crab if I’m in Maryland. I’m very spoiled.

4. You get an all expense paid vacation anywhere you want but only for a week (no around the world trips!), where do you go?

Part of me feels like I should say someplace in Europe because I’ve never been there, but I would really want more than a week and can’t think of just one place. So I’d want to take Betty back to the resort in Turks & Caicos where my husband and I got married in 2010.

Not only was it beautiful, but it was a very kid friendly resort. I met Cookie Monster.

And the Count.

Best celebrity encounters of all time.

5. Favorite American city to visit and why?

6. What’s the craziest thing on your bucket list?

Running the Boston Marathon.

7. What novel has been the most influential at any stage in your life?

Pathetically enough I haven’t read a book in so long that I don’t feel very well equipped to answer this question. I guess I could say “The Twilight Saga”, but then I’d have to punch myself in the face.

8. You can choose: be able to run for life but never get faster than a 9:00/mi or you get the next year to be amazing and win marathons but then you can never run again.  Which do you choose?  (aka the Achilles question)

9:00 miles for life. I can’t put a price on my sanity.

9. Do you have the same favorite color as when you were a child? What is it now/then?

Right now my favorite color is purple. I’m sure at some point during my childhood it was purple but between then and now I’ve had a love affair with every color.

10. Favorite article of clothing?

Obviously these.

Half Mad Marathoner Asks:

1. If I was coming to your city and could race only one race, what would you recommend?

The Baltimore Half. It takes you on a really great tour of the city and the finish is awesome. (You get to run through our baseball stadium!)

2. Almond Butter or Peanut Butter?

I hate both. I know. There’s something wrong with me.

3. Your favorite running shoe company has just offered to sponsor you to run 50 halves in 50 states.  It’s all expense paid, plus you get to bring a friend.  Who (dead or alive, famous or not) do you want to run with?

4. What is your must have, can’t live without running gadget?

Does my phone count as a running gadget? I feel more naked when I don’t have my phone than if I left the house without pants.

5.  Dream race-station location?

PARIS. Like that will ever happen. Please let me live vicariously through you, Sue!

6. Runderware or no?

Is that a specific thing? If so, regular underwear is fine for me.

7. Are you as annoyed as I am by the signs & shirts that say, “Run like Ryan Gosling is waiting for you at the finish line?”  I don’t want him to see me all sweaty and gross.

Yes, but not because I care about him seeing me. I can just think of about a million other people I’d rather have waiting for me at the finish line.

8. How many running related stickers do you have on your car?

One. I have a 13.1 sticker. It’s my second one actually because some assclown thought it would hilarious to steal the “1” off my car while I was in Florida, leaving me with a 5K.

9. What’s the most annoying thing you’ve had to deal with on a race course?

A crazy homeless guy trying to hit me with a branch during a 10K I ran last year.

10. Pen and paper or technology?

11. How far out do you start your training schedule?

I kind of feel like I’m training in some way or another all the time!

1. What is your favorite season and why?

I like spring. I feel like there are so many things to look forward to and everything is just starting to come alive again.

Usually by this time of year, the trees actually have leaves on them. WTF WHERE’S MY SPRING.

2. Are you a morning or a night person?

I’m an all-the-time kind of person.

3. What is your biggest running or fitness goal?

Short term: My right foot has been hurting the past few days and I’d really like for that to stop. Long term: To make it through Dopey Challenge without my legs detaching from my body and eventually to qualify for Boston.

4. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation this week, where would you go?

I’d like to go visit some of my friends in Los Angeles. I haven’t been back there since I moved.

5. What is your biggest running/fitness accomplishment?

I consider the fact that I run at all to be a huge accomplishment considering how completely anti-sports I was my entire life. Fitness wise, I’m super proud of my abs, especially considering that I birthed a giant child a couple years ago. Also I’m really proud of the fact that I can do scorpion pose now. It took me a really long time to get it right!

Next step would be touching my feet to my head. I have a ways to go.

6. How long have you been blogging and why did you start a blog?

Technically I’ve been blogging since 2009. I had another blog for years before this one, but eventually it started becoming too much like a chore and wasn’t enjoyable anymore so I stopped. Then when I started running, I needed an outlet where I could talk about everything related to that plus I missed writing about things that were going on in my life too. That’s when Run Salt Run started.

7. What is one dessert that you could not live without?

8. Do you spend most of your time throughout the day sitting, standing, or a combination of both?

Sitting unfortunately. I have a desk job.

9. What is your favorite post-workout indulgence?

The bigger the better.

10. What time do you usually go to bed at night?

Usually not until around midnight. I’m kind of an insomniac. Epsom salt baths have been helping that!

Becky Asks:

1. What is your favorite “cheat” food?

I don’t really have one. I eat pretty much whatever.

2. What is one little-known fact about you?

I’m directly related to two of the Founding Fathers of the US.

3. Do you own any pets? If so, what?

2 cats. Here’s an awkward family photo of them:

The black one is named Oskar and the one giving him the side-eye is Grover.

4. If you could run anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’d like to go back to Santa Barbara and run again. I used to run on my lunch breaks when I worked out there because I didn’t belong to a gym and it was so beautiful, but I didn’t really enjoy running then. I want to go back and actually love it.

5. What’s your next race?

My next big one is my marathon at the end of May, but I may do a 5K between now and then.

6. How did you get interested in running?

Honestly, I have no idea. I had tried to run so many times in the past and always hated it. It wasn’t until last year that something clicked and there’s no turning back now.

7. What’s your favorite time of day to run? Why?

As much as I hate getting up, I do love going out in the morning. I always feel so great for the rest of the day when I get my run in early.

8. Do you run with someone or a pet?

I am a lone wolf, but I just started laughing at the thought of running with my cats.

9. If you could meet any famous runner, who would it be?

I’d really like to meet Meb. He seems awesome and super friendly.

10. What song do you listen to most frequently while running?

Hard to say. I listen to a lot of different music. My most favorite song to run to right now though is The Walker by Fitz & The Tantrums.

TA DAHHHHH! I hope you enjoyed your sandwich and if you’ve made it this far, THANK YOU! Part of the Liebster Award Rules state that I have to nominate some people and ask them 10 questions. Instead I’m going to ask 10 questions and you guys can answer one or all of them in the comment section if you want!

1) Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? (Mine is clearly Cookie Monster.)

2) How do you feel about treadmills?

3) Are you good at math?

4) What is your favorite brand of running shoe?

5) Coolest celebrity you’ve met?

6) What is your dream job?

7) What is your favorite kind of pie?

8) How many brothers and sisters do you have?

9) Why did you start blogging?

10) Do you take selfies at races?

Now on to this one:

I was given this award from the lovely Tantra @ Pretty Little Runner (what a cool name!) and  The Pinterested Parent (who I’m betting has never had a Pinterest fail in her life and I’m jealous of that). Lucky for you, this award does not involve me answering lots of questions, but it does involve me telling you 10 random facts about myself.

I don’t know what else I could possibly have left to tell you, but here goes:

  1. I was VP of my sorority pledge class, but what’s usually more shocking to people is that I was actually in a sorority.
  2. I pierced my own nose when I was 13 and still have it today.
  3. I have a tattoo or 12. The next one I’m planning will be a 48.6 after Dopey.
  4. I briefly considered going to school for mortuary science.
  5. I get carsick if I sit in the backseat.
  6. I love wine. That’s probably not an unknown fact.
  7. I HATE BACON. I hope we can still be friends.
  8. I fell down an embankment in Malibu while on a hike in 2006, hit my head on a rock, and got knocked clean out. As a result have a scar on my temple where my hair won’t regrow.
  9. I used to ride a Razor scooter to work. As an adult.
  10. When I was pregnant with Betty for nearly my entire first trimester, all I could eat was these:

If I ever see another bunny shaped pasta again, it will be way too soon.

And now my nominees for this award!

Amy @ Fitness Meets Frosting

Helly @ Helly on the Run

Suz @ SuzLyfe

Michael @ Running Around the Bend

Mar @ Mar on the Run

Cynthia @ You Signed Up for What?

Scott @ Pirate Bobcat

Ursula @ Northern Ambitions

Carson @ Running Southern

Irene @ Irene Jean

Whew! That just made me far more tired than any Epsom salt bath ever has. If you made it this far, YOU ROCK.

Happy Thursday, everyone! Time to take a nap.

A Salt you know VERY well now.

Might have to start doing that to half marathon stickers. That’s pretty freaking funny. You could do it with a marathon sticker, too. It’s great!!

  2. emmelineruns says:

Jealous of your scorpion! It’s funny, I would totally pick being awesome for just one year. I’d miss running like crazy, but I’m SO competitive and I’d rather be awesome for a short time.

    • runsaltrun says:

Of all the questions on here that’s the one that took me the longest to answer. I went back and forth for a long time on it! If I wasn’t being such a hypochondriac about my foot today, my decision might have swung the other way haha.

  3. journeysinmotherhood says:

OMG, those cat leggings. You obviously need a pair of them for every day of the week!
And, I am going to answer the one about treadmills. I have just recently started flirting with the idea of running (like doing a two miler or so 3-4 times a week) and I HATE treadmills. They make me feel like a hamster. I also live in AZ though where it is run outside weather year round (you just have to start really early in the summer).

    • runsaltrun says:

That is a very common complaint about treadmills. I love them, but I think I would like them less if my gym didn’t have a movie theater in it. Running on the treadmill while watching Billy Madison is okay. 🙂

  4. Half Mad Runner says:

    1) Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? (Mine is clearly Cookie Monster.)
Not a Sesame Street Character but my favorite muppet is Animal

    2) How do you feel about treadmills?
I used to own one but I gave it away becuase I didn’t use it.

    3) Are you good at math?

    4) What is your favorite brand of running shoe?
Saucony but I’m currently wearing Brooks & Mizunos.

    5) Coolest celebrity you’ve met?
I met the vice mayor of my town recently. That was cool and random.

    6) What is your dream job?
    Volunteer at the animal shelter

    7) What is your favorite kind of pie?
    Sweet potato

    8) How many brothers and sisters do you have?
    2 sisters, I’m a middle child.

    9) Why did you start blogging?
Becuase people got tired of listening to me talk about running so I figured I could force it on strangers.

    10) Do you take selfies at races?
Occasionaly but only because my cousin dares me to.

    • runsaltrun says:

I love that you would volunteer at a shelter! I’ve always wanted to do that too, but I’m a little afraid that I’d get too emotionally attached to the animals. You are awesome!

  5. piratebobcat says:

Oh wow, you rock Salt! (get it?) Thank you so much!!! Hahaha, I love your cow name! And BTW, that stick I was trying to hit you with during your 10k is my lucky run fast lucky stick! It would’ve helped you! 😉

Let’s see. I like the Count – or can I choose the Swedish Chef? I know he’s not Sesame, but he’s hilarious. Hate treadmills and math. Love Brooks. Coolest celeb was probably Drew Carey, but coolest experience was meeting Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright as they are heroes of mine. Making videos is my dream job 😉 I like apple and pumpkin pies. I started blogging when I trained for my first marathon because people kept asking me how it was going. I have one bro and one sis. I’m too serious about racing to take selfies, but I will ham it up for the camera if I get a chance.

    Keep on keepin on Salt!

    • runsaltrun says:

HAHAHAHA I GET IT!! (Hence my Instagram name. 🙂 ) That was YOU out there at my 10K?? You really need to invest in a new pair of pants. It looked like the ones you had on hadn’t been washed at any point during this decade.

I will allow for the Swedish Chef because he is hilarious and I AM SO JEALOUS you met Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!! I am a HUGE fan of them both. The night I met my husband he was dressed up as Shaun from Shaun of the Dead. It was Halloween. (He doesn’t normally dress like that.)

      • piratebobcat says:

Oh really?!?! Cool! That’d be a good costume! When I met them it was at the Dallas premiere of Hot Fuzz. I brought my Shaun of the Dead DVD jacket and had them all autograph it. I only wish I knew about Spaced then (it hadn’t been released on DVD in the USA at that time) – because I discovered it later and became obsessed with it!
Anyway, they were cool. I got a pic with them. Later I accidentally ran into them in the parking lot as they were leaving and I was on the phone with my wife and Nick grabbed it from me and started giving her a hard time about not coming to the premiere. Hahaha!

    • runsaltrun says:

Thank you thank you! I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve read the whole series more than once. They are pretty brainless though and I don’t have a whole lot of time to sit down with a book.

  6. irishrunnerchick says:

I love these posts – so fun to learn more about you. Your scorpion pose rocks! Badass! I also hate nut butters – they’re a totally American thing and I just can’t get on board with. I’ve seen plenty of people at my climbing gym wearing those crazy cat leggings. Love ’em.

  7. SuzLyfe says:

I am just going to react to some of your questions/facts and then answer one of those you posed back to us: And save my own facts for MY SUNSHINE AWARD ❤
Hahahahaha we would have very similar red carpet rundowns. Sweatchic. and ERMIGERD Thundercats. That was back in the ddddddaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy. Reminds me of Street Fighter and the Super NES. LOVE IT. Funny story, Alex isn't too big a fan of Spiderman (specifically Tobey Maguire) because he didn't like the fact that TM was so puny and that he could "beat him up easily." This coming from a man who will openly admit that he will likely never get into actual fisticuffs in his life unless I am the one to get him into it, and that I am likely going to get him into a fight one of these days. Something about a "big personality" and "fiestiness." Well, you married me anyway, sucker.
I would punch you in the face for saying Twilight Saga. You best say 50 Shades of Gray. ::OUCH:: sorry, just punched myself in the face.
And you and I would ride the 9:00/mi train and be happy for eva. Hahaha the kitty leggings. Actually magical.
And you are such a baddass for doing scorpion. I hear today we are working on side crow and grasshopper. I'm doomed.
Answer to a question: my favorite kind of pie is ALL THE PIE. But if I had to pick just one, I think that I would go with a black cherry pie. errrrmmmigiggerrd.

    • runsaltrun says:

I think I totally showed my age with the Thundercats. Except that they redid the show at one point, but for the sake of this post I am talking about the OG Thundercats a la 1980’s.

STREET FIGHTER WAS ONE OF MY FAAAAVES. I used to play it with my cousins all the time. I am really not a fan of Tobey Spiderman either. I love the new guy that stars in the Amazing Spiderman movies. I can’t remember his name, but he’s adorable and I think he makes a MUCH better Peter Parker than Tobey ever did.

      Twilight…50 Shades…same difference haha.

I hope you had a fun yoga class today and that side crow went well! It’s one of my favorites! PS. I’ve never had black cherry pie, but I will be searching this out now like woah.

      • SuzLyfe says:

ermigerd you teach me scorpion and i will bring the pie. And Andrew Garfield (Emma Stone’s boo and the new Spidey) is adorable.
Side crow went well! I got into it on the first try (2 arm support) but then was all sweaty and slipped. I am really pumped to work on grasshopper–it is really cool.

      • runsaltrun says:

A scorpion/pie trade off sounds extremely fair to me.
THAT’S HIM!! Ahhh he’s so cute!!! MUCH better than Tobey-Spidey. I’m glad side crow went well. The sweat gets me every time though. Grasshopper is one of my favorite arm balances EVER!!!

  8. Sue @ This Mama Runs For Cupcakes says:

Wow, I made it all the way through…that is impressive. I feel terrible I have been nominated for several as well including Helly and a few others and haven’t paid it forward yet…i really need to do that, thanks for the reminder 🙂 And you can come along for the ride to Paris if you want…I will need a cheering section since my family isn’t going! Favorite Sesame character…grover. I have a love/hate with the treadmill. I do take race selfies. I have one sister. Favorite pie is a strawberry cool whip pie my mom used to make when I was a kid…still love it, but now I know how terribly BAD cool whip is!

    • runsaltrun says:

I am very bendy and I bet I could fit into a moderately sized suitcase. I will totally stow away and cheer you on over there! Ahhhh Paris!!!

Grover is also an excellent choice. He is the namesake of one of my cats. And I don’t even care how bad cool whip is because that sounds amazing!

    • runsaltrun says:

I knew I would hurt some feelings with that one. I debated even saying something for a minute. If it’s any consolation, I do love how bacon smells. I just can’t eat it. (I know…fail.)

  9. Crosscoutry02 (@crosscoutry02) says:

    1) Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? (Mine is clearly Cookie Monster.)
Kermit, but I am also a fan of Grover.

    2) How do you feel about treadmills?
I will use them if not another option is available, but my workout is really short, unless I have something or someone to distract me.

    3) Are you good at math?
Up until Calculus, yep, and then I got a bit confused. Give me Trigonometry, Advanced Math, or Algebra, though, and I am good-to-go.

    4) What is your favorite brand of running shoe?
It used to be Mizuno, because I never got an injury once I switched to the stabilizing brand. Recently, though, I got a pair of Brooks, which I love, and I might say bye to Mizunos.

    5) Coolest celebrity you’ve met?
Um…I really have not met any.

    6) What is your dream job?
I don’t know. Something to do with the environment, fitness, food, or all three!

    7) What is your favorite kind of pie?
Pecan – yes, I know it is unhealthy, but I indulge only on Thanksgiving.

    8) How many brothers and sisters do you have?
3 brothers – 2 older, 1 younger – I am the only girl and I would not trade it for anything.

    9) Why did you start blogging?
I have tried Blogging 2x and always get sick of it or decide that I am not happy with what I am sharing. Recently, though, I have started toying with blogging about running.

    10) Do you take selfies at races?
Nope – It takes about 30 selfies of me to get a decent shot and I do not have the patience.

  10. Pandora Viltis says:

Someone stole my 26.2 magnet off my car this week and it gave me the sads. I can’t imagine what I would’ve done if someone took just the number 2. I was ready to interrogate everyone in the area after my magnet theft.

It was fun reading more about you! Congrats on all your nominations!

  11. Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says:

Wow I am so impressed that you answered all those questions! And honestly I loved reading all of your answers…I didn’t have a sandwich but instead a nice glass of red wine accompanied my reading:)
Ok so wait…you don’t like peanut butter?? That is just crazy to me. My dad doesn’t like it either and I really question how we are related. And not liking bacon either? I feel like you are missing out on some of the best things in life!
That scorpion pose is amazing! At one point I tried to learn how to do crow pose, but didn’t practice consistently and gave up.
And to answer one of your questions…I am not a fan of the treadmill but this winter I was forced to use them occasionally when the streets were covered in 6 inches of ice. I would always rather run outside but I’d rather run on a treadmill than not run at all.

    • runsaltrun says:

It was a marathon of questions. 🙂 Thank you! Red wine makes everything better. I may have had a glass myself as I was answering them. Hence…Moolia Roberts.

Sadly I do not like peanut butter. I did as a child but at some point in my life there was a shift and I stopped liking it in any form. There was about a two week period when I was pregnant that all I wanted was peanut butter on English muffins. Like I would have knocked anyone out of the way that got in between me and the peanut butter in the grocery store. But then that went away as suddenly as it started.

Crow is deceivingly hard. Especially if you are trying to do it the correct way. There’s a cheater way that is easier but if you are legit getting your knees up into your armpits, it’s tough!

  12. txa1265 says:

I always love learning stuff about my fave bloggers! So thanks for sharing … and thanks for the nomination … I am a serious slacker as well. I did one post in February, but now I have *5* recent nominations I am working on a post for! Eek!

    To answer one question:

“2) How do you feel about treadmills?”

I ran outside this winter in below -20F temperatures. ’nuff said. 😉

    • runsaltrun says:

They are all well deserved though! Your blog is awesome!
And yeeeeah you definitely made me feel like a giant wuss inside on the treadmill this winter. I’m over here at the gym whining that it’s 20 degrees and you were all -20 with your face half frozen and still kicking butt out there! 🙂

  13. fitnessmeetsfrosting says:

GAWWW thank you so much for the shout out! And at the same time I’d like to add an “awww crap” to that because I have to do a Leibster post and I was gonna nominate you lol! We’re gonna play hot potato.

Moo-lia Roberts PAHAHAHA almost peed my pants. Those kitty leggings- are those from Target?? My sis bought a pair for her friend and I’m fairly certain those are it! You had me crackin’ up girl!

    • runsaltrun says:

I accept that nomination! And I will answer all the questions in a timely manner this time because I learned my lesson!

Those leggings ARE from Target. I think they might be the best thing I’ve ever gotten from there besides the little dress I have with tiny Himalayan cats on it. Can you sense the cat love theme I have going on here? Basically if there is a cat on it, I will probably wear it.

  14. irenejean says:

Aw, thanks for the nomination! I’ll be posting my facts soon. 🙂 A homeless guy tried to hit you with a branch during a race?! Crazy! Which founding fathers are you related to? Your scorpion pose is badass and your cats are cute!

I want to hear from YOU!
