Before I ran my first half last year, I purchased myself a pair of compression calf sleeves because I had heard and read so much about lessened leg fatigue and speedier recoveries. After just a couple runs I added myself to the long list of believers and it became a very rare instance that I would run without leg compression gear on.
I have a couple pairs of PRO Compression sleeves in my arsenal already, thinking that these worked so great for me and that I really didn’t need to go the whole sock route. I said something like ‘wearing a compression sock would feel restrictive to me in some way blah blah blah’ and while that was partially true, it was probably also a little bit about me being a cheapskate. Not that the price difference is vast. Actually it’s all of about $5, but I have a 2 year old and 2 year olds are very expensive. I cut corners where I can so I can pay for that Jake and the Neverland Pirates coloring book she destroyed while we were shopping at Target the other day.
Anyway, now it’s either spend more money on socks or spend more money on the water bill washing my fantastic pink PRO Compression marathon socks over and over again. They have been a game changer for me. If I wasn’t working through an injury they would probably still be super awesome, but the fact that I do need the extra reinforcement for my ankle and foot have made them almost a necessity.
Compression socks are thought to promote circulation in your legs, which is why they are worn by not only athletes, but by people who suffer from a variety of medical issues. Increased circulation is thought to be responsible for less fatigue during a run and a faster recovery when you’re done. PRO Compression quickly became my go-to.Their graduated compression socks are made from a nylon/poly blend that is so comfortable and breathable. I think they will be great for warmer weather wear too. They are also designed to give extra support to the muscles and tendons and HELLO? That’s exactly what I’m needing over here.
It was suggested that I order a size XS, which at first I questioned because I thought they would be tight…because tightness isn’t at all exactly what you are trying to achieve by wearing a compression sock.
Any-durrr they apparently know my legs better than I do and the socks were perfect. I fell instantly in love with the way they hug my ankle and foot. The first time I wore them on a run was during my birthday 5K and they have accompanied me on each of the few runs I’ve gone on since, including under my cheeky St. Paddy’s Day knee socks in my race last weekend and yesterday for the 6.2 MILES that I ran on the treadmill.
That’s right. I ran a 10K yesterday and I can still walk up and down the stairs today. Take that, Dr. Awful!
I even wear them sometimes when I’m just hanging out around the house because they feel that good. Is that weird?
Are you a compression gear believer? Do you own any compression socks or sleeves? Would you maybe like to get some for an awesome discount?
You’re very much in luck. They have a ton of styles and colors to choose from as you will see if you click the link above. Not just calf sleeves and a variety of different sock styles, but also compression wear for your arms. After you’re done with your shopping, enter the discount code BLG14 at checkout and receive 40% OFF your order, plus free shipping as long as you are located in the US! I think I might be doing this myself ASAP because someone is bound to eventually notice that I’m wearing the same pink socks all the time.
