I’m feelin’ so fly like a…B3…

Hello there, song reference that few people are likely to get. Anyway, I do feel pretty darn fly and it’s because as of yesterday I’m all signed up to do something SUPER. FUN.

I’m running in the B3 Distance Challenge!!

What’s the B3 exactly? It’s 21.3 miles of pure Charm City running awesomeness — complete with picturesque harbor views and probably a green beer at some point — spread out over three races in the months of March, April, and muggy August: Kelly St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock 5K, Sole of the City 10K, and a race that I so desperately wanted to do last year, (but wasn’t sure if I could handle the distance yet) the Charles Street 12. All three of these races are hosted by Charm City Run which I consider to be the coolest running store on the planet. I knew I was going to run in Chuck 12 this year and I had my eye on SotC, but when B3 was introduced I thought, “I need 14 races this year to hit my goal so why not do that 5K too?”

Well the “why not” was originally the price. The 12-miler is expensive by itself right now and so is the 10K with the premium. So the big price tag on B3 made sense when you factored in the 5K. Plus the fact that all of these events have post-race celebrations (green beer?), Chuck 12 has transportation because it’s an awkward point-to-point, an extra cool premium from the race series and a badass finisher’s medal for completing all three. I understood as much as one can understand why races cost so much. I just didn’t know if I could make it happen.

But today I DID with a little luck and a Google search that yielded me a Living Social deal for 26% off entry to B3!! THIS I could manage. I didn’t even give it a second thought and I’m glad I didn’t because by the time I got home in the evening, the deal had sold out.

As much as I wish I was in Florida right now taking on one of their running challenges, I’m so looking forward to one of my own right here in my hometown. Baltimore is such a fun place to run!

Streak Update: It’s DAY 48 and I’m feeling pretty good despite the fact that I’ve been dealing with some kind of reaction to a new protein shake I drank after my run yesterday afternoon. I’m supposed to be reviewing the product, but let’s just say…it would be hilarious, but they really don’t want my review. Today may be slow going, but I’m still going to get in my mile (high-waisted 70’s bell bottoms and zebra flats!). Yesterday I finally got to run outside for the first time in a week and it was wonderful. One of those runs that reminds me how much I absolutely LOVE doing this.

I hope everyone has a phenomenal weekend!

Have you run a race series before? Would you want to? Do you know that weird song from my post title?

It’s been in my head ever since I wrote this. I might need to download it to my playlist.

I know that song! Fly Like A G6. It takes me back to when I was living in warm, sunny CA =)
That race series sounds awesome! I love the idea of a 12 miler…I might need to see if I can afford to sign up. Baltimore races seem to love their premiums…

      Yes they certainly do.
I am so excited for Chuck 12! Last year was the first year of it and I know a couple people who ran it and loved it. Let me know if you sign up!

Yeah – that song was my younger son’s JAM a couple of years ago when it came out! I mentioned it elsewhere, but when a lyric I like is used in a title I ‘hear the song’ rather than reading the title if that makes sense?

The only series I have done is called ‘Wine Baron’ – it is the pairing of the Wineglass Marathon and Red Baron half marathon, both in Corning NY. I did it last year and this year. Last year there was a super-cool tech shift with an image of a World War I flying ace with a wine glass.

I would happily do others, but don’t have any others local, and honestly races are so expensive (as we save for colleges!) I limit what I sign up for..

Totally makes sense and I do the exact same thing. 🙂
That shirt sounds awesome! I hear you on the signup fees. I also want to do the Maryland Double this year (Frederick Half and Baltimore Full) so if I hadn’t gotten the deal on this one I don’t think I would have done it at all. We are already thinking about college over here too!

Sounds like a really fun series and event better that you got a discount! I’ve never been able to complete all of the races in a series, but I’m considering one this spring. The Lexington half that I plan to run just announced a partnership with the Derby Festival (Louisville) marathon which is three weeks later. They are calling it the Kentucky Half Classic and giving a third metal to finishers. I really want to do it, but that would make 3 half marathons in 5 weeks. Big decision to make!

Living Social is awesome, and I think you finding the deal was a sign you needed to do this. I can only imagine how awesome it would be to run Charles Street (any length of it) I always loved taking that route from Towson to Baltimore. Sure it’s slower but it was always SO pretty. Going past the colleges and the cathedrals etc. You are really making me rethink this anti-runner thing in me 😉

I seriously cannot wait. It’s definitely the “scenic route” for a reason! Start running now and come up here in August and do it with me! It’s pretty much entirely downhill!

Also – I really think you should write up that protein powder anyway. Try to figure out what bugged your system, and don’t be nasty about it – but be honest.

I think I’m going to. I am going to contact the person I was writing the review for this morning and see what they want me to do with the rest of the product since obviously I won’t be making anymore smoothies with it. Then go from there. People definitely deserve to know. I did a little research last night when I was having my own issues and found that I am not the first one to have something like this happen. (And luckily mine was mild compared to others…probably because I didn’t drink the whole thing.)

I totally sang that song in my head as I was reading your blog title! You’re fly like a G6 🙂 That race series sounds awesome and I’m super impressed you are still streaking! How do you have energy for that? I’m struggling to get off the sofa right now to do anything!

  7. Lindsay says:

Hahaha love the song! Feeling so fly like a G6 😉 Except my roommates and I in college decided to change it to feeling so fly like a cheese stick! We would get weird looks when we’d sing it loudly at the bar. Oh college…

You’re streak is amazing! Bell-bottoms and zebra flats should always be required. Our local running group hasn’t updated their 2014 race series past March but I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have.

I reviewed a product recently and it wasn’t positive. Just my 2 cents but I think we owe it to ourselves and the people reading to be completely honest with our thoughts and post a review whether it’s good or bad. If they sent you the product to review send them an email letting them know your thoughts before posting so they can address any issues but post the review regardless.

I want to hear from YOU!
